Load capacity analysis of floating raft-pile in soft clay
The laboratory tests raft-pile foundations subjected to vertical axial loading are presented in this paper. The piles and plate are made of wood. The laboratory model of single piles are initially driven into the soft clay and then loaded. The given axial load and vertical displacement of the models are recorded. The net ultimate capacity of single pile can be withdrew from load-displacement curves resulting from the tests. Then, the group of the piles are pushed to obtained the load-replacement curve of the foundation. At last, the raft pile foundation is tested in the same way. The behaviour of the raft-pile foundation is then investigated. To gain the goal, the axial load tests of individual raft foundations are also carried out. In this paper, analytical formulas to estimate the axial pile capacity and the group piles efficiency for piles in clay is reviewed. The axial load capacity of the raft-piles foundation floating in clay can be concluded higher than the combination of the piles capacity. Moreover, the behaviour of the raft-pile system appears to be the same as the single plate one.
