The effect of implementation of chicane on road humps towards speed reduction

Transport demand is fulfilled by motorized and non-motorized mode of transportation
activity. The increasing number of motor vehicles in urban area creates travel complexity, which
influences drivers preferences to detour trips to avoid congested arterial roads. To avoid accidents,
the safety of pedestrian and cyclist should be more considered by implementing traffic calming
devices. As one of traffic calming measures, chicane has a satisfying result in decreasing speed
when it is implemented on road humps without override comfort towards the driving experience.
Thus the purpose of this study is to elaborate the effect of the implementation of chicane on
vehicle speed. Study result shows that the implementation of chicane has significantly reduced
vehicle speed.
