Problematika erotika dan pornografi dalam perspektif estetik
Erotic art has often been mistaken as a synonym for pornography. Moreover, it has also been regarded as “second-rate” art by some philosophers due to its alleged provocative nature. The former has, however, brought some adverse consequences to both the erotic art artists and the artworks since the works have been seriously accused as obscene and degrading materials without any significant footing. This unfortunate accusation is certainly a serious threat to the artists, the works and also the audience because it obstructs many critical aspects concerning the creative process and the very safety of both the artists and the works.
This paper has thus two purposes. It is intended to: first, clarify whether the allegation is based on a strong ground; and second, show the striking differences between erotic art and pornography. The problems are probed from the aesthetic perspective, given the possibilities offered by aesthetics to tackle the issues at hand without giving premature normative claims. The research shows that the ideas from both Immanuel Kant and Martin Heidegger can provide an insightful and sufficient ground to ease the situation and to provide a fair and better way for erotic art to reach its long neglected potentials.
