Indonesia Central Bank as the leader of last resort and the global financial crisis 2008
This thesis tries to explain the role of Indonesia Central Bank (ICB) as
Lender of Last Resort (LoLR) in saving Indonesia economy and the 2008 Global
Financial Crisis. It cannot be denied that this crisis become global, when the
impact of this crisis disseminated to other part of the world, and finally reach to
Indonesia. Taking an example from Greece, there are a lot of states that cannot
sustain its economy in facing this crisis. Interestingly, Indonesia does not face
significant result from the crisis. This thesis tries to prove several arguments, in
analyzing ICB's role in reducing the impact. First, ICB has taken several
important steps that is needed in solving the crisis, with relating it to its vision and
mission. Second, however, political interest and bureaucracy challenges have
influenced government progress in handling the crisis. Third, LoLR is a policy
that is exceptionally important in saving Indonesia economy. Fourth, comparing
Indonesia experience with Greece and America, it can be argued that the role of
ICB is vital in saving Indonesia economy, despite all controversies that exist
during the crisis. Therefore, this crisis is generally explained how the execution of
LoLR occurs in Indonesia.
