The Tsunami Simulation Around Flores Island and Sipora Island Using Finite Volume Model
Tsunami around Sipora Island occurred on 26 Oktober 2010 ago, that caused many victims whether human or materials. Tsunami phenomena can’t be stopped and predicted certainly. However, the negative effects from this phenomena can be reduced through early warning system entirely and accurately. One method can be used as part of early warning system is by using numerical simulation. Numerical simulation is a method that having better accuracy hence it can be applied to model the tsunami cases.
Finite volume method becomes a good alternative to simulate the tsunami cases due to the advances in computer technology. This method uses unstructured triangular mesh. The momentum equations are solved by using explicit and implicit schemes. The time step uses Runge Kutta scheme. Those are integrated in FVCOM code developed by Chen (2003).
In this paper, FVCOM model is tested using canonical island and implemented in the cases of tsunami in Babi Island (1992) and Sipora Island (2010). Those tsunami simulation results give a close agreement compared to observation data in the field.
