Case study: quality improvement of Yamato NN Chair at PT Chitose Internasional Tbk
This study is performed for the quality improvement for Yamato NN Chair at PT Chitose Internasional Tbk. It is one of many large companies in Bandung which focuses on the furniture industry. Its folding chairs have become an icon of the company. The product has defects that can not be accepted by consumers. The method that can be used by PT Chitose Internasional Tbk in improving the quality is Six Sigma DMAIC. Six Sigma DMAIC method is con-tinuous improvement of quality to reach 3.4 DPMO (Defects Per Million Opportunities) or sigma level of six. There are three major processes involved in the production of folding chairs, namely con-struction, finishing, and assembly process. Among those processes, the assembly process of Yamato NN has the highest contribution to produce defective products. The sigma level in this process was 4.082. There are five phases that have to be done in using this method, namely Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. There are corrective actions that had been done in the assembly process. The result from implementing Six Sigma DMAIC in PT Chitose Internasional Tbk was sigma level increased to 4.247.
