Lightweight Concrete Development From Sidoarjo Mud
Lightweight concrete from Sidoarjo mud (LUSI) is a lightweight concrete which is made of aggregate as the main ingredient and Sidoarjo mud. Based on the research, it is found that the chemical substances contained in the mud is dominated by silica (>50%), alumina (>25%), and iron (>8%), so it is estimated that it can be developed into a lightweight aggregate. The process of forming lightweight concrete was conducted by making lightweight aggregate through combustion after the main ingredients are dried, refined, and sieved to a nominal size of 10 mm, and then burned by using rotary kiln on sintering temperature (900'C-1.000'C). The result of lightweight aggregate testing showed a pretty good and qualified quality with weighted value by 0,66, specific gravity by 1,31; water absorption by 18,63 and strength by 9,6. Likewise, the resulted lightweight concrete can meet structural lightweight concrete with compressive strength reaching 22.4 MPa (>17MPa), tensile strength 3.07 MPa (>2.0 MPa) and density 1.2 - 1.3 kg / ltr. Because the volume of this mud is very large and includes materials that are very disturbing to the environment, its use as lightweight concrete is expected to reduce the impact , and resulted in environmentally friendly concrete.
