Clerical Masculinities and the Paradigm of Relationality
There is a typical clerical masculinity, a consequence of the law of compulsory celibacy for those who serve the community. Ministers 'sacred power has been used by some as a way of committing sexual abuses against minors, paedophilia. There is not an adequate education in seminaries for the integration of sexuality without the presence of the feminine. This fact really requires a serious discussion about human sexuality, but this has not yet been initiated by the institutional Church for fear of calling into question the law of celibacy. Celibacy works for a Church whose management is made up exclusively of celibate men and whose structural principle is sacred power and not communion. This sort of Church organisation makes it difficult for celibates to integrate the masculine and feminine dimensions.
