Politicization of Race in the Time of Covid-19 : Theological Vision for the Future
This essay will demonstrate the terrible consequences of the politicization of race during this pandemic. Using data from the World Health Organization, and the Global Burden of Diseases. I will show how this politicization has worsened health inequity particularly in the United States, and global health inequity in Africa. By paying attention to how structural injustice has created both the social and commercial determinants of health, I will argue that Covid-19 is another layer of suffering and inequity built atop other multiple layers of unjust structures that continue to perpetuate poverty and harmful local and global health inequities. Fundamentally, what we are facing today in the pandemic calls for courage and commitment in rethinking the foundation of our common existence here on earth.
