Upaya diplomasi Jepang dalam merespon program pengembangan senjata nuklir Korea Utara (1993-2003)
The research is about diplomatic efforts that Japan carried out as a
response to North Korea's nuclear weapons proliferation program that threatens
Japan's security. The object is necessary because North Korea's nuclear
weapons proliferation program, which is viewed as a threat for Japan, could
made Japan responded to the issue through diplomacy, one of the instruments of
foreign policy.
The method used in this research is qualitative method, with a
descriptive-analytical research in order to describe and to understand the object
specifically. The data for the research were gathered by way of document and
literature study, which included the secondary data.
Japan's diplomatic efforts can be seen since North Korea, for the first
time, announced its withdrawal from the NPT in 1993. Since then, Japan viewed
North Korea, which is suspected of having nuclear weapons, as a threat to
Japan's security. As a country that has relatively weak military capabilities and
adopted a passive defense policy, Japan uses diplomacy as an instrument in order
to respond to North Korea A variety of diplomatic efforts were carried out by
Japan, including bilateral, regional, as well as multilateral diplomacy.
