Design of deep excavation slopes using grout anchor for head race tunnel TBM exit at renun hydroelectric power project, North Sumatera
Excavation work in soft weathered rock with low strength and condition
may not be desirable, especially for deep excavation. Steep slope with low
cohesion and modulus of elasticity will result in unbalanced driving force.
Moreover, ground movement at slope may occur. In order to solve the problems,
ground improvement should be taken into action. Grout anchor is one method,
which is known worldwide as an effective and economical solution to solve slope
stabilization problems.
In the process of design, several methods are used to determine ground
parameter and to design geometric and characteristics of anchor. To analyze the
interaction between ground and anchor and to analyze the safety of slope, finite
element analysis using computer program PLAXIS is implemented to the design
following the sequence of construction.
This study is applied to a deep excavation project at Renun, North
Sumatra. The project is going to do a deep excavation as Tunnel Boring Machine
exit way. Data is taken from Geological Investigation. Most of ground
characteristics are tufaceouss with poor quality of rocks. As the limitation of the
ground space, very steep slope need to be constructed based on types of rocks
at site. Grout anchor is a favorable structure to implement at the project.
The conclusion is that to stabilize slopes, anchors with relatively low load
capacity are applicable. And the excavation is safe to be implemented using
grout anchor.
