Photomineralisation Study of Non-volatile Organic Acids by Doped TiO2 Photocatalysts under UV and Visible Light Irradiation
The photomineralisation of model pollutants (DL-malic acid – MA, dichloroacetic acid –
DCA, and p-hydroxybenzoic acid – pHBA) solution was investigated using sol-gel synthesized doped (Co2+, Co2+/Ce3+, Pt4+) titania under mercury arc (UV) lamp and tungsten halogen (visible) lamp. Relevant optophysical properties of the photocatalysts were obtained from UV-vis diffuse reflectance, SEM, low temperature (77 K) liquid N2 adsorption and NH3-TPD measurements. Photoactivity evaluation suggests that the Pt/TiO2 catalyst is the best for both UV and visible light application.
